Set in the aftermath of the Civil War, two sisters escape their frustrating and oppressive lives by joining the growing Spiritualist movement of lady mediums who have discovered that although they can’t speak on behalf of themselves they can speak on behalf of the dead.  As the sisters exploit this loop-hole to challenge the constraints of society their influence grows but so does their risk of being exposed as frauds.
