A Cute Film
1 Minute Video Poem by Kate Marks Cinematography by Kimberly Culotta Starring Alexa and Athena Mansour
A CUTE FILM Cute… Oh you’re so cute. Cute. Like a mini burger Cute like a teeny tiny pink and purple marshmallow shaped like an ice cream cone Cute like an eraser shaped like a watermelon and if you’re lucky it smells like one too. Cute… Is something small, something shiny, something you think you understand, something you speed read. Cute. Is something you look at when you’re on the phone or the toilet Something you like but something you leave Cute you call it while you walk away, or cram it down your throat. To live inside cute means to be there after the button pat, after the squeeze, to live in the pink, to be strangled by a bow, to be skinned in a fluffy skirt. Cute. Cute. Cute. Cute is always young, always little, always shallow… You don’t look at the ocean and say oh that’s cute, but you go to the pet store and craft yourself a fish-bowl and look at that lost singular fish bubbling through a porcelain castle, circling a porcelain sign that says “Gone Fishin’” and you think that’s cute. Cute.
